Aztec Anglers is owned by Paul Freeman with Roughriderguide.net and Michael Mercurio from Flyfishpimp.com. Paul and Mike are both experienced San Juan Flyfishermen. Paul is a former guide on the San Juan guiding clients for 3 years on the river and is a professional fly tyer. Paul's intimate knowledge of the river, it's inhabitants, it's guides and personality are reflective of the service level you would expect from a top notch guide service on any famous piece of water. If you've never fly fished the West... we offer the perfect trip for you. The San Juan is western tailwater fly fishing at its best. This river is a desert version of a fly fishing paradox: Big trout on tiny flies. The river fishes excellent year round, through spring run off, heat of summer, fall dry fly fishing for Baetis and epic winter Midge hatches. This river never has an off season and brings us weather that is bearable all year long. Float or wade, you will be hooking fish in no time.
We'll guide through a stretch called "Lunker Alley". It didn't get this name by accident. Have you heard of the "Texas Hole"? This is where the heaviest populations of trout are found in the long deep runs below fast riffles. Baetis Bend, Frustration Point, Lower Flats. You can see and fish it all. We'll take you there and show you all the secrets of getting these fish to take your fly.
